Chrysalis is the name chosen for the
Youth Walk to Emmaus because it symbolizes faith growth in
the lives of high school and college aged young adults -
the spiritual growth that is necessary between adolescence
and adulthood. It is a crucial time of maturing faith for
discipleship.
Chrysalis has its roots deeply planted
in its parent movement, the Walk to Emmaus. Chrysalis is a
three-day spiritual renewal retreat that provides
participants an opportunity to learn more about faith,
to experience Christian love and support, and a chance to
make new commitments in their faith journey. The content of
the three days focuses on God's grace, how one experiences
Christ as friend in the body of Christ, and how one is
called into discipleship, giving love to a needful world.
The focus of Chrysalis is
commitment to Jesus Christ through the local church. The
objective of Chrysalis is to inspire,
challenge, and equip local church youth for a closer friendship with Christ and for
Christian action at home, church,
school, and in the community. Chrysalis lifts up a way for you to
be a friend of Christ in the
world.

and sharing your faith;
• understand that being a friend of Christ,
or Christian,
involves responsibility;and
• are open to dedicating your everyday life
to God in an
ongoing manner.
Chrysalis is open to youth of any denomination, ages 15-19, who have completed their 9th grade year.

Sponsorship:
Sponsorship does not involve paying for the
participant (although in some cases this might apply), but
rather ensuring that they gain the most spiritual benefit
from the Flight. This is a commitment that should not be
taken lightly and can only be fulfilled by someone who
has either been on a Chrysalis Flight or an Emmaus
walk.
Sponsorship involves, among other things the
following:
1. Selection of suitable
applicants
This should be done prayerfully and
in consultation with your reunion group and the
relevant Pastor/Minister, to ascertain that this applicant
will benefit form Chrysalis and is at present spiritually
and emotionally suitable for this. Don’t simply
sponsor “nice people”, friends or family that you want to
go.
2. Support for the applicants before
and after the Flight
You undertake to:
• Pray for the applicant;
• Discuss Chrysalis with the
applicants' family for support, care and
encouragement for the applicant after Chrysalis;
• Arrange transport to and from Chrysalis;
• Participate
in activities that make the weekend a special
blessing;
• Help the applicant attend follow-up
activities after the Chrysalis Flight.
